This is a finished loop which I created in Photoshop and Cinema 4D. The skier started as a basic stick figure sketch then over multiple passes I created a clean outline with colors, shadows, and highlights. I then created the background in Cinema 4D and rendered using Sketch and Toon. The trees were modeled and given a Cel Shader material with an outline.I also added grain and animated everything in 12 frames a second with absolutely no motion blur, to try and emulate a vintage look as much as possible.
Now the objective was to shift and create a ski bum in 3D.
This is an early stage example of the village scene. I am planning to fill the scene quite a bit more with a lot of people and also adding weather elements into it. I would like to eventually have puddles of water and snow on the roof but all in due time.
Initial sketch phase focusing on
timing and movement.
Sketching and boxing out limbs to make
sure proportions are accurate.
Implementing character design and adjusting
some movementsto make stronger exaggerations.
Color and shading.
Adding details to the goggles,
skis, poles, and snow.
Compositing shadows and
implementing 3d background
created in C4D.
In this video you can see a clear view of each pass. The original illustration started out being very primitive and over time I would refine the characters features. This was a discipline in being able to trust the process to completion.
